Low inductive busbars

IGBTs is one of the most common switching technology in MV power conversion systems; use of IGBTs require low inductance allowing lower commutation losses and higher switching frequency. Thanks to its worldclass production facilities, its simulation methods as well as its dedicated project management teams and engineers, AMPHENOL AUXEL is able to design and manufacture a wide range of customized state of the art AUXEL Laminated Busbars.

Low inductive laminated busbar function:

  • Connect active (power modules) and passive components (capacitors) inside the high-power converter

Most common function names:

  • DC link
  • DC bus

Manufacturing principle:

  • Busbar is made from multiple layers of conductor, insulator and adhesive. They are pressed and bonded all together

Typical operating power range:

  • 50KW – 2 MW (up to 8-10 MW in modular converters)

Laminated busbar advantages:

  • Advantage 1: cost savings. Simplified form of wiring, error proof assembly
  • Advantage 2: mechanical properties: Mechanical support / back plate, compactness, ultra-low creepage/clearance required
  • Advantage 3: electric properties. Low inductance level (allow high frequency switching & efficiency), limitation of skin effects, improved heat management (larger convective surface), high power density system (50 kW => MW)

Product characteristics:

  • Specific printing of the external insulation film
  • 100% of the interconnections we produce are visually inspected
  • Extra-large laminated busbars (up to 100 Kg)
  • Flexible interconnections which allow to reduce mechanical stress on other components (active or passive)

Others:

  • Single layer busbars
  • Connections for power PCBs
